Survival Kit for Virtual Reality

Survival Kit for Virtual Reality was a four-part international collaborative project that explored the intersection of art and emerging technologies. Approaching the subject from an artistic and experimental perspective, we investigated the creative and critical potential of tools such as the Oculus Rift DK2, Google Cardboard, 3D video with GoPro cameras, cybernetics, biosensors, and robotics.

Through a hands-on methodology and a series of workshops, participants actively engaged with these technologies, questioning their impact and imagining new ways to use them creatively. The project culminated in a final event in Budapest, where we presented our prototypes, experiments, and process documentation. Visitors were invited not only to experience the outcomes but also to engage in dialogue—sharing feedback, raising questions, and contributing to ongoing debates around virtual reality and digital culture.

Three key workshops shaped the project:

  • Survival Kit for Virtual Reality – Mykolajiv, Ukraine
  • Cyber Pills for Your Mental Health – Lviv, Ukraine
  • Kolektiv / Live Coding with Biometrics – Žilina, Slovakia

We brought together a diverse group of artists, art students, IT specialists, and game developers to create, collaborate, and reflect together.

The project was a collaboration between four non-profit organizations:

  • ART Optimists (Mykolajiv, Ukraine)
  • Center for Urban Culture (Lviv, Ukraine)
  • Truc spherique (Žilina, Slovakia)
  • Igor Metropol Association (Budapest, Hungary)
