Joyful Ballet and Playful Notes

PAttern Design

I was commissioned to create two designs for the Hungarian State Opera House: one inspired by musical notes, the other by ballet dancers. I was thrilled to participate in this project as a designer, having been introduced to classical music in my early childhood. I learned to play the flute, piano, and even the double bass, although unfortunately, there is no longer space for instruments in my daily life.

That is why I decided that my musical note illustration should not be arbitrary but should show a recognizable detail from a well-known classical score (an excerpt from Swan Lake). I generally prefer to draw by hand first; my lines are more dynamic, bold, and expressive on paper than on a screen. However, I colour on the computer to have immediate access to an infinite range of colour shades.

As a child, I was also captivated by dancing and ballet. Here, I wanted to capture the grace of the dancers and the dynamics of their movements, aiming for simple yet representative depictions. The illustration of ballet dancers was preceded by thorough research, during which I collected many photographs of dancers in different poses.

This was an immensely joyful project to work and I am happy to have had this opportunity.
